STAGE 01 · PROBLEM

Is the problem real?

CANONICAL PROBLEM

Individuals with ADHD struggle with sustaining long-term discipline and finishing started tasks/projects due to initial bursts of hyperfocus burning out rapidly, leaving them with overwhelming guilt.

FREQUENCY
Multiple repeated complaints in the post and comments.
INTENSITY
Users explicitly describe existing tools as bloated/overkill and mention workaround behavior.

PAIN TRIGGERS

Inability to maintain discipline and finish started projects once the initial excitement fades.
Experiencing intense guilt and feelings of wasted potential due to abandoned projects.

EVIDENCE

"I've gone through this too, and to be honest i am starting to accept that it is just the way it is."

comment

I've gone through this too, and to be honest i am starting to accept that it is just the way it is. Hobbies, and like any other decisions in life do not always have to be something you force yourself into if you don't feel like it. Of course there are exceptions to this, and at least by knowing them you will know your non-negotiables. (Relationships, health, education, work among other things). You're still 19 which is very young and you are at the age and health that you could try almost anything and return to them anytime you would like. Just stay away or be mindful of stuff like cheating, alcohol, drugs or reckless driving. Also try not to sign up for 12 month contracts unless you really thought about it lol. You can also try to experiment with stuff that makes you stick through something like body doubling (highly recommend), trackers or whatever. Stick to what works and in your situation, try not to let the fear or commitment override your fear of trying.

STAGE 02 · CUSTOMER

Who feels this pain?

TARGET USERS

individuals with ADHDA D H D Creative Professionals

Multi-passionate individuals with ADHD trying to ship side projects or maintain hobbies without succumbing to the hyperfocus-burnout-guilt cycle.

Context

Maintain long-term discipline, stick with hobbies/projects without burning out, and manage the guilt of unfinished tasks.
Accepting the cycle of rotating through abandoned hobbies as an inherent part of their personality rather than a failure.
Using behavioral strategies like body doubling, trackers, or avoiding long-term financial commitments.

Current Workarounds

Accepting high-waste abandonment as an unchangeable personality trait
Using standard Kanban boards that accumulate guilt-inducing backlogs of stale tasks
Relying on body doubling sessions or accountability buddies that quickly lose novelty

STAGE 03 · MARKET

Where's the gap?

EXISTING SOLUTION GAPS

Unmedicated management or willpower alone fails to prevent the cycle of hyperfocus and burnout.
Traditional discipline advice does not account for ADHD-related boredom and loss of interest, which 'feels like a death sentence.'
Past negative experiences with other medications (e.g., for depression) create a barrier to trying ADHD-specific medical solutions.

OPPORTUNITY & VALUE

Why Now

Repeated struggles with intense guilt over half-completed physical/digital projects (skateboards, game design, apps) and the complete loss of dopamine/interest being validated by others as 'just the way it is'.

Value Proposition

Unlike standard PM tools (Trello, Notion) that build up guilt-inducing backlogs, Orbit gamifies and legitimizes the rotating nature of ADHD hyperfocus, building workflows for resuming projects rather than forcing linear consistency.

Product Direction

A modular, gamified project manager designed specifically around ADHD cognitive patterns. Instead of treating 'burnout' as a failure, the tool treats projects as an 'active rotation' (or orbit). When interest in a project wanes, the app helps the user cleanly freeze, catalog, and archive the current state with a 'warm-handoff' context card so they can effortlessly resume it months later when interest returns, with zero guilt.

STAGE 04 · BUSINESS

How does it make money?

MONETIZATION

$8/moBillable monthly or $60 annually

Model

WILLINGNESS TO PAY

ADHD users spend thousands of dollars on abandoned physical hobbies (skateboards, electronics, software licenses). Paying $8/mo to alleviate the emotional toll of guilt and recover those investments by resuming projects is a high-value, low-cost trade-off.

STAGE 05 · EXECUTION

How do you ship it?

MVP PLAN

Cycle through your passions without the guilt of unfinished projects.

Core Features

One-click 'Freeze Orbit' button that generates a smart handoff note for future self
Active Rotation dashboard displaying only 1-2 active projects to limit cognitive load
ADHD-focused micro-task generator to break down cold projects into low-barrier entry points

Weekly Roadmap

1
W1-W2
Core 'Freeze & Resume' engine works for single projects.
  • Build markdown editor with a structured 'Future Self Handoff' template
  • Implement simple state machine for projects (Orbiting, Frozen, Completed)
  • Design visual UI showcasing only one 'Active' project slot
2
W3-W4
Micro-task generator and project context revival flow built.
  • Integrate LLM API to auto-generate warm-up tasks based on the handoff note
  • Build the visual 'Docking Bay' where archived projects are safely stored
  • Implement a 'Resume' wizard that presents easy entry points
3
W5
Private beta testing with 15 ADHD creators and billing integration.
  • Integrate Stripe for monthly subscriptions
  • Recruit beta testers from r/ADHDprogrammers and r/ADHD
  • Refine UI copy to actively remove high-pressure language (e.g. 'overdue', 'behind')
4
W6
Public launch with localized ADHD positioning.
  • Launch on Product Hunt and neurodivergent subreddits
  • Create short-form video content demonstrating 'freezing a project without feeling bad'
  • Track week-over-week retention metrics specifically for project-switching cycles
Launch Strategy

Leverage ADHD communities on Reddit (r/ADHD, r/ADHDprogrammers) and TikTok/X by creating relatable content around 'hobby-hopping' and the psychological relief of freezing/resuming projects.

RISKS & ASSUMPTIONS

Top Risks

Novelty fade churn

ADHD users may abandon the tool within 2 weeks once the novelty of the app itself wears off.

SEV 5
Over-engineering the resume flow

Creating too high a friction barrier during the project archiving/freezing phase could cause users to skip it entirely.

SEV 3
Ineffective notification triggers

Re-engaging users when a project has been cold for weeks without causing guilt or being muted is a delicate product design challenge.

What this score means

This idea scores in the upper-middle range of opportunities surfaced by MonetScope, with a validation sub-score of 8/10 against 4 independently sourced evidence signals. A "promising" rating usually indicates a real pain has been detected and discussed in the open, but the pipeline did not find enough signal to flag it as urgent or high-frequency. These opportunities can still produce excellent businesses — they often correspond to "boring" problems that established players have ignored — but the founder should expect a longer customer-development cycle to confirm willingness to pay.

Why this matters for SaaS founders

It sits at the intersection of "creators", "mental-health", "neurodivergent", which makes it relevant to a specific subset of founders rather than a generic horizontal opportunity. SaaS opportunities at this stage tend to win on the strength of their initial wedge — a single workflow that the target user runs every week, where the existing solution is either spreadsheets, a clunky incumbent feature, or a manual process they hate. The build cost is moderate; the distribution cost is everything. The MonetScope pipeline surfaces this category alongside other saas signals, which is why it appears here rather than in a generic "trending ideas" feed.

Scores are derived from real forum discussions across Reddit, Hacker News and X, weighted by evidence volume and signal quality. How scoring works

Frequently asked questions

Is "HyperFocus Orbit: Rotating Project System for ADHD Creators" a real validated startup idea or just an AI-generated suggestion?

MonetScope does not generate ideas from a language model's imagination. Every opportunity on this site is anchored to specific source posts and comments from real public discussions — typically on Reddit, Hacker News, or X — where actual users describe the pain in their own words. The AI's role is structuring, scoring, and grouping those signals into a navigable opportunity, not inventing the problem.

How recent is the underlying data for creators?

MonetScope's spider pipeline runs continuously and surfaces opportunities as new evidence accumulates. The "Updated" date in the header reflects the most recent re-scoring of this specific opportunity. Most saas opportunities visible in the public catalog draw from discussions in the last 30-60 days; older signals are de-prioritized because user pain shifts faster than most founders assume.

What's the difference between "overall score" and "validation score"?

Overall score is a composite across six dimensions — pain, urgency, willingness to pay, market size, defensibility, and execution ease — designed to give a single number for triage. Validation score is narrower: it asks "how cleanly does the same signal repeat across independent sources?" An opportunity can score high on overall but lower on validation when one or two large discussions dominate the evidence; conversely, validation can be high on a smaller-overall idea where the signal is consistent but the addressable market is modest.
