$15K for your state and federal returns is ridiculously high
comment$15K for your state and federal returns is ridiculously high. I was a partner in a Big 4 firm and partnership taxes are a bit complicated depending on how many states the firm operates in. I basically filed returns in every state (many were composite returns filed by the firm on behalf of the partners) and then take a partial credit against my home state’s taxes. Add in international stuff and I stopped doing my own taxes when I became partner. We aren’t entitled to free tax return preparation so I have to pay the firm for preparation of my returns. While I pay a somewhat reduced rate, I still think $15K sounds very high unless there are a lot of complex investments, nanny tax returns, etc. As to some of your questions, I have to show the firm that I paid my estimated taxes (I submit receipts of online payments). It’s their way of confirming that you paid the taxes they told you to pay as well as determine whether any were paid late. They also ask me for an estimate of my income and deductions before year end and then again in March if I’m going on extension. That is information that is necessary to prepare returns and estimates. I’m not sure how they underestimated your income by $230K. Part of what you paid was taxes and would have been due regardless. It sounds as if there may have been interest and/or penalties for failure to pay timely. If $10k was in fact interest and penalties (often penalties can be waived) AND it was their mistake, then I would be having a serious conversation with a partner at the tax firm about that as they should be covering the penalties. But you need to understand the situation better before you make claims that may not be correct. Part of that $15K may be underpayment of 2025 taxes and then an additional increase to the 2026 first quarter estimate.
find a new cpa. That's a big fee for them to still be fucking up
commentI'd find a new cpa. That's a big fee for them to still be fucking up. Would they do a better job next year with a year's experience? Probably, but I'd still be pissed and would switch anyways.

Generate an investment memoWhat this score means
This opportunity scores well above the median for ideas surfaced by MonetScope, with a validation sub-score of 8/10 against 4 independently sourced evidence signals. A "strong" rating in this band typically means the pain signal is consistent and recurring across multiple discussions, but one of the three pillars (severity, willingness to pay, or competitor weakness) is somewhat softer than top-tier opportunities. Founders evaluating this should focus customer discovery on the softest pillar first — confirming the gap before committing engineering time to a build.
Why this matters for SaaS founders
It sits at the intersection of "ai-powered", "automation", "consultants", which makes it relevant to a specific subset of founders rather than a generic horizontal opportunity. SaaS opportunities at this stage tend to win on the strength of their initial wedge — a single workflow that the target user runs every week, where the existing solution is either spreadsheets, a clunky incumbent feature, or a manual process they hate. The build cost is moderate; the distribution cost is everything. The MonetScope pipeline surfaces this category alongside other saas signals, which is why it appears here rather than in a generic "trending ideas" feed.

Frequently asked questions
Is "PartnerTax AI: Accurate Income Forecasting for Law Firm Partners" a real validated startup idea or just an AI-generated suggestion?
MonetScope does not generate ideas from a language model's imagination. Every opportunity on this site is anchored to specific source posts and comments from real public discussions — typically on Reddit, Hacker News, or X — where actual users describe the pain in their own words. The AI's role is structuring, scoring, and grouping those signals into a navigable opportunity, not inventing the problem.
How recent is the underlying data for ai-powered?
MonetScope's spider pipeline runs continuously and surfaces opportunities as new evidence accumulates. The "Updated" date in the header reflects the most recent re-scoring of this specific opportunity. Most saas opportunities visible in the public catalog draw from discussions in the last 30-60 days; older signals are de-prioritized because user pain shifts faster than most founders assume.
What's the difference between "overall score" and "validation score"?
Overall score is a composite across six dimensions — pain, urgency, willingness to pay, market size, defensibility, and execution ease — designed to give a single number for triage. Validation score is narrower: it asks "how cleanly does the same signal repeat across independent sources?" An opportunity can score high on overall but lower on validation when one or two large discussions dominate the evidence; conversely, validation can be high on a smaller-overall idea where the signal is consistent but the addressable market is modest.
